PC Version Overview

03/03/2017 06:00 PM

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands development team is committed to offering all players the best experience possible.

Understanding the different requirements of each platform, we knew we had to refine our core gameplay and technical offerings to meet the community’s expectations.

Expert teams have been deployed during the four years of development with this vision in mind, and we have been working closely with fans to reach our ambitious goals for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. The PC version is a critical topic for our players and we want to remain true to the franchise and its legacy on this platform.

In the last few weeks, we also have been able to improve our game including updates to PC performance based on your feedback. We will continue to gather feedback through the open beta and after launch.

Therefore, we are thrilled to present to you an overview of our work on the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands and to give you a first glimpse of how you will be able to customize your experience the way you want!

  • - 4K (UHD) and Ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio support
  • - Resolution scaling between 50% and 200%
  • - No FPS capping
  • - Full SLI / Crossfire support (AFR-friendly)
  • - Multi-monitor advanced support, customized menus and HUD placement
  • - Mouse and keyboard full support and UI adaptation
  • - Input device auto-switch and extended gamepad support (DirectInput/XInput)
  • - Auto-detection system for graphics options and VRAM gauge
  • - Benchmark tool and visual preview feature
  • - Nvidia Ansel support

The PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands has been designed from the ground up for multiple types of peripherals, giving you the freedom to customize your experience. Whether you prefer to game with mouse and keyboard or a controller, you will enjoy the same level of control over your characters and items; everything you need will be within reach.

- Advanced keyboard and mouse experience:

  •  - Customizable controls
  •  - Alternate control scheme
  •  - Separated input contexts (driving, drone, etc.)
  •  - Multiple keyboard layouts

- Native support of most popular controllers (including but not limited to Microsoft Xbox & Sony PlayStation gamepads) as well as XInput and DirectInput controllers.

- Plug & Play support: auto-switch to latest input device used

- Customized control (input sensitivity and hold vs. toggle)

The menus have also been revamped for the PC version in order to incorporate the specifics of the platform. You will be able to quickly access any menu feature/function with ease, split the menus across more monitors, check out your visual changes in real-time, and even more.

- PC specific menus for visual and controls customization

- Preview of graphic settings changes, allowing you to better understand all changes made

- Keyboard & mouse-friendly menus (retro-feel cursor keys navigation is possible)

- Adaptation for multiple monitors and varied aspect ratios

- VRAM usage bar

One of the biggest challenges for a PC version is making sure that each experience gets customized perfectly. Looking at the number of different hardware parts on the market, we decided to integrate with as many video options as possible so that your visual fidelity needs are available. Here are some of the options that you can find and customize in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.

1. Display options

- Multi-monitor support, including main viewport selection and a display selection feature

- Window modes (exclusive full-screen, classic window, and borderless full-screen)

- Resolution selection with multi-aspect ratio support

- Resolution scaling (0.5x to 2.0x) - allowing the increase of the game’s internal rendering resolution while keeping the user-selected display resolution

- Multiple refresh rate values & V-Sync

- Framerate limiters (from 30 to 120 with intermediate values, or completely off)

- Extended FoV for 3rd person cameras (0 to 100% based on scene FoV) & more.

2. Graphic options

- Graphic Presets (Low, Medium, High, Very High, Ultra and Custom)

- Shadow quality (which sets the resolution and filtering of all shadows in the game -> Off, Medium, High, and Very High)

- Texture quality (terrain detailing through the application of tessellation/displacement mapping - Low, Medium, High, and Very High)

- Godrays (light beaming through foliage and other gaps in geometry)

- Lens Flare (simulating the real life effect appearing when light reflects off of a camera lens)

- Anti-aliasing (smoothing edges, transparent textures and particles, increasing graphic fidelity for both low and high resolutions -> Off, FXAA, Temporal AA)

- Ambient Occlusion (creating shadows based on two or more intersecting objects -> Off, Ubisoft’s SSBC, NVIDIA HBAO+) & more (including Terrain Quality, Texture Quality, Anisotropic Filtering, Motion Blur, Iron Sights DoF, etc.).

The dedicated Benchmark feature is something that we valued greatly during production. It also gives you the opportunity to measure the performance of your setup in a predefined Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands scenario. When running it, the game will launch a stress-test “demo scene” including variously demanding situations of the game. At the end of this demo, a short report will be provided including Min, Max, and Average FPS. Depending on the results, you can choose to update your graphic preferences to ensure the best gaming experience.

A complete Benchmark Report will be automatically generated at %path%/My Documents/My Games/Ghost Recon Wildlands/Benchmark/. This in-depth report will give you access to more information, such as:

- Frame rate

- GPU temperature/usage

- CPU usage

- RAM usage.

To improve your online experience, we added a multiplayer text-chat function to better coordinate with your teammates when not using voice (or when gaming late at night like a true Ghost). We also employed the use of an Anti-Cheat solution in order to build a healthy community and deter the usage of 3rd party software in the hopes of gaining an unfair advantage. We will share more details about our anti-cheat policy in the upcoming weeks.
