Play as you are – Playstyles

10/11/2016 06:00 PM

The open world of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands offers total freedom of approach to the missions available in the game. You can play all 100+ missions in any order, and each mission can be played in a completely different way. Each player will have a unique way of completing a mission, as the game is entirely non-scripted.

Each mission is designed to allow the player to complete it the way he or she wants. As Eric Couzian, creative director, explains: “We made the deliberate choice to not force a gameplay situation,” which means that the game will not force you to play a certain way to accomplish your mission, and that you won’t be penalized for the way you play. You can start a mission playing stealth, develop a whole strategy based on drone recon while trying to be as invisible as possible, and then decide to finish the mission with guns blazing.

We’ve already shown you four different ways to complete the El Pozolero mission:

An approach taking advantage of vehicle use, for those who like to complete their mission quickly and efficiently:

A full-assault execution with a run-and-gun approach:

At E3 2016, we shared a half-stealth/half-assault mission executed during the day:

And finally, at Twitchcon 2016, a complete stealth mission that takes place at night:

Eric Couzian talks about two of the many playstyles you can adopt while playing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands: “Assault-type players will tend to use short- or middle-range weapons, or even snipers. These players favor a direct attack to quickly take down the threat. On the contrary, stealth-type players try not to get spotted by the enemy. Some of them kill the enemies stealthily by equipping their weapon with a suppressor, while others are true Ghosts and try to avoid being detected at all, while not killing anyone.”

The game’s AI is programmed to react differently according to the playstyle the player is using. If the player is going all guns blazing into a camp, then the Santa Blanca Cartel will call motorized reinforcements to try to defeat the Ghosts. If, instead, the player tries to be as stealthy as possible, then the AI will try to detect him. The AI can also send patrols to look for the player it has detected if he is attacking from a distance.

Players can also issue orders to their AI teammates thanks to the command wheel, which we will talk about later. Recon allows you to quickly solve a situation and is also a very important element of the game. The use of recon can suit every playstyle, or you can even do without recon, in order to increase the difficulty. There are also snipers, those who like to kill enemies from a distance and have fun with the game’s realistic bullet-drop system.

In the end, whether you like to play like a commando or like a real Ghost, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands allows you to play as you are and as you like. The game, as open as its world, will let you share intense stories with your friends.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available on March 7, 2017, for PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One, and PC.
